You are not paid to chase documents
4 September 2026 · 4 min
Most of an accountant's week is spent on things any competent stranger could do. That part can now be handled by machine — on both sides of the job.
Ask a contabilista where the week went and you will not hear “preparing returns”. You will hear about the client who still has not sent the rental contract. The letter from Finanças that needed reading twice. The fourth email explaining what a NIF is. The invoice that should have gone out a fortnight ago.
None of that is why anyone hired you.
Give your assistant the file
An AI that can only see your chat window is a clever stranger. Ask it to draft a reply to the tax office and you will spend as long fixing it as writing it.
Give it the actual matter and it stops guessing. It reads the letter that arrived on Tuesday, the document the client uploaded, the deadline, what was agreed and for how much. Then it can do something with them: message the client, send a document, issue an invoice, add a task so they can see progress, answer a letter from the matter's own address.
Use whichever assistant you already use. Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, your editor. Nothing to install: an address and a key.
What it cannot do
No assistant on Alfred can move money, approve work, accept a quote, or agree a price. Those tools do not exist — not disabled, absent.
That is what makes the rest safe to hand over. You can let a machine draft the answer precisely because it cannot send a euro or commit you to anything. Everything it does says who it did it for.
The client's side does the other half
The document you are waiting for already exists. It is in their downloads, or their inbox, or a photo on their phone. What is missing is ten minutes they have not spent looking.
Their assistant can look. It sees you asked for the rental contract and puts it on the matter, where you already look. It answers your question in the thread. It tells them what is outstanding without them opening anything.
So the chasing stops from both ends at once. That is the part that scales — not you working faster, but the waiting disappearing.
And the work arrives sorted
The wrong enquiry still costs you an hour. Someone who wanted a different service, or a price you do not offer.
Here they pick you from a listing that already says what you do, what you charge and how long you take. The price is agreed before anything starts. The money is taken up front and held until you deliver and they approve. No invoice conversation.
The judgement is the scarce thing. Everything around it was only expensive because a person had to do it.
Where to start
- Finish your profile — what you handle, your prices, your turnaround.
- Connect your assistant under AI access, and choose there whether it may send.
- Ask it what is outstanding. If it answers from the file instead of guessing, you are connected.
- Tell your clients to do the same. Those will be your easiest ones.
Alfred is new and this is the first of these. If it does not match what you find when you use it, tell us. That is more useful than agreement.
